Tenchi Muyo in Utena outfits
Hilarious is just one of the words I can use to describe Spaceship
Agga Ruter. You'd know it's a hentai flick from the very first
scene, but as the episodes progress, you can't help but forget
that this is a show for perverts. The only reminders you will
have are the sexually-suggestive symbolism seen in just about
every main item, place or event (e.g. dicks that look like
microphones and spaceships that resemble boobs). The characters
are like the Tenchi
Muyo gang dressed up in Utena
outfits. Similar to Tenchi Muyo's scenario, SAR's very plain
leading man is surrounded by a bunch of voluptuous beautiful
women who can't help but fall in love with him. Why shouldn't
they? His main role in this series is to make "physical
contact" with every powerful female who can aid him and
his team in times of trouble. I even suspect that the title
should have been Spaceship Agga RUTTER (with a double T) because
the lead male just ruts his way to salvation.
SAR also has an 80's ring to it, with humor comparable to
new wave comedies like Top Secret (starring the young Val
Kilmer), and old Steve Martin films. Even the video games
they play are similar to Nintendo's earlier 80's cartridge
systems. All in all, I would say this was one of the most
satisfying "breakfast" I've ever had. It's definitely
better than watching sick comedies like, say, Austin Powers.
